Study: Certain Oral Bacteria Associated With Hypertension In Older Women
HealthDay (3/2, Norton) reports a new study suggests that “older women who harbor certain bacteria in their mouths might be at increased risk of developing high blood pressure.” The study “followed 1,200 women” aged 53 to 81 for a decade, finding “15 types of mouth bacteria were linked to the odds of developing high blood pressure.” Most were linked to “an increased risk, but a few types were potentially protective.”
Cardiology Today (3/2, Swain) reports that “the results did not vary according to age, smoking, BMI and baseline BP.” The findings were published in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
