Using Teeth As Tools, Constant Snacking Among Worst Habits For Teeth
In a slideshow on its website, US News & World Report (1/7, Caceres) listed nine habits that may harm teeth, featuring information from Dr. Gerry Botko, president of the Academy of General Dentistry, and others. For instance, Dr. Botko advised against using teeth as tools. “Using your teeth as a bottle opener can cause chipping, breaking or fracture of your teeth,” Dr. Botko explained. In addition, constant snacking and consuming sugary beverages throughout the day “put you at a higher risk for cavities because cavity-causing bacteria like to feast on leftover food and create an acid that attacks the outer shell of your teeth, Botko says.”
